Located along the shores of Puget Sound, Lakehaven Water & Sewer District is headquartered in the city of Federal Way, Washington. Since its incorporation in 1990, Federal Way has focused on important community projects, such as downtown revitalization, transportation system improvements, new parks, and new community facilities for the performing arts. With a population of over 100,000, Federal Way is located within a 30-minute drive from both Seattle and Tacoma. Bordered on its west side by the magnificent Puget Sound, with the Olympic and Cascade Mountain Ranges in close proximity, Federal Way offers spectacular views and year-round recreational opportunities.

 

Lakehaven Water & Sewer District encompasses an area of approximately 35 square miles with a service population of approximately 135,000. The sewer system includes 350 miles of mainline, 33 pump stations and two secondary wastewater treatment plants. The Redondo Plant is designed for an average flow of 5.6 MGD and the Lakota Plant is designed for an average flow of 10 MGD. The Wastewater Operations Supervisor assists the Wastewater Operations Manager by supervising, organizing, and coordinating daily wastewater operations, including pumping, treatment, disposal, laboratory functions, control systems, and maintenance, in compliance with federal and state regulations. The Supervisor also plans and implements capital improvements to wastewater treatment facilities and oversees the supervision and evaluation of personnel within the Wastewater Operations Department. The Supervisor will collaborate with the Wastewater Operations Manager to develop and implement departmental goals, operating standards, and laboratory controls to ensure regulatory compliance and optimal performance. This position will also assist with budget development, approve purchasing and staffing decisions, and oversee training and safety programs. This role includes coordinating with contractors, consultants, and other agencies to support infrastructure and services, as well as managing capital projects and facility-related contracts.

 

Education & Experience: Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and five (5) to seven (7) years of  experience in progressively responsible positions OR any combination of experience or education which clearly demonstrates competency. A two-year Associate of Science degree in a field related to wastewater is preferred. Technical education in a related field is desired but not required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a leadership role demonstrating proficiency is required. Must possess a valid Washington State “Group III” or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification, or have established reciprocity at the time of appointment. Must obtain a “Group IV” or higher certification within 24 months. Class I Lab Analyst certification is required within one (1) year. A Class 2 Lab Analyst Certification is desired within 24 months. A WPI Maintenance Technician I is required within 18 months. Must obtain within one year from initial employment, any required certifications or licenses applicable to the utility. Good working knowledge of wastewater and biosolids treatment processes, laboratory procedures, hazardous chemicals, and the rules and applicable regulations that govern wastewater treatment plants and their operation.
