The City of Salem is hiring a Systems Technician in the Pumps and Controls Unit of our Public Works Department. What you will do:
As a Systems Technician, you’ll be responsible for inspecting City facilities to identify and resolve deficiencies. Your daily work will include performing routine preventive and predictive maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting and responding to alarms, and collaborating with other technicians to ensure smooth operation of water and wastewater systems.
This position supports the maintenance and repair of the City’s water treatment plants, reservoirs, and water/wastewater pump stations. This includes hands-on work with mechanical systems such as pumps, motors, generators, and valves. You’ll also handle electrical and electronic maintenance, including the repair, replacement, or overhaul of control systems, instrumentation, and programmable controller monitoring systems. Your expertise will help keep critical infrastructure operating efficiently and reliably for the community.
Position Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 3:00pm.
- Please note: On-Call standby duty will be required for emergency response within a 1 hour response time to site.

What are the minimum qualifications?
- Must pass the pre-employment background check and drug test (including marijuana).
- Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the City of Salem's driving standards.
- Graduation from high school, or G.E.D., supplemented by the completion of technical courses in pump repair, electricity, electronic instrumentation, or related subjects; and three (3) years of work experience in the maintenance of industrial pumps, motors, and controls and in electrical and electronic work with programmable controllers, microprocessor-based systems, or distributed control systems; or any combination of experience and training that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the examples of work.
- Electrician License, Limited Maintenance (LME) or Plant Journeyman (PJ) license required.
Preferred Qualifications (not required to apply)
- Oregon Wastewater Collections Level I Certification.
- Crane Operators License.
- Oregon Water Distribution or Treatment Level I certification.
