Medford Water is seeking either a Water Efficiency Technician or Water Efficiency Specialist to join our team. Only one position will be hired, based on skills, experience and education. 

Water Efficiency Technician: $51,588 - $65,618 Annual
Water Efficiency Specialist: $54,746 - $73,102 Annual

WATER EFFICIENCY TECHNICAN:
The Water Efficiency Technician is an entry position in the Water Efficiency department. This position will perform a variety of water management-oriented tasks including planning, developing, organizing, and implementing programs related to water efficiency, water education, and public outreach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The position will assist the Water Efficiency Coordinator in the day-to-day operation of all existing water efficiency programs and in development and implementation of new programs, in order to enhance water management objectives.  Duties involve extensive customer contacts and related oral and written communications. Active Communication and Respectfulness of co-workers and the public are skills required for this position, as are incorporating Medford Water Commission Values into daily activities.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (Illustrative Only) 

  • Communicates effectively with customers to promote efficient water usage practices.
  • Assists in performing indoor and/or outdoor water evaluations and makes recommendations for improving water use.
  • Assess the efficiency of irrigation systems, prepares written reports to site owners and manages outlining suggestions for water system improvements.
  • Evaluates high water use accounts and assists customers with identifying water leaks.
  • Assists in implementing rebate programs and tracks water savings.
  • Assists in marketing water efficiency concepts and activities, including outreach materials, presentations to groups, and staffing of booths at public events.
  • Accurately performs clerical duties within the Water Efficiency department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Knowledge and ability to use computer spreadsheet, word-processing and GIS programs.
Skills in written and oral communications, necessary to effectively convey information to the public. Ability to accurately read, record and analyze data, understand and follow instructions, follow safety procedures and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff and the public. Understanding of resource management, horticulture and landscape irrigation systems is preferred.

TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIRED
Associate degree (2-year degree) in a water related or business field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above; Valid Oregon Driver’s License and acceptable driving record are required to be maintained.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work performed includes a combination of office and indoor/outdoor activities.  Indoor/outdoor work may involve exposure to sun, high temperatures, dirt, wet conditions and other site-specific environmental conditions. Normal hours are Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm; however, may need to modify work schedules occasionally to accommodate customers or assist in staffing outreach activities. This includes occasional Saturday outreach events or attending evening meetings.

Positions in this class typically require kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Light and Medium Work:   Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.  Additionally, the ability to do continuous walking and/or short bursts of running while working outdoors.

WATER EFFICIENCY SPECIALIST
The Water Efficiency Specialist performs a variety of water management-oriented tasks including planning, developing, organizing, and implementing programs related to water efficiency, water education, and public outreach.

  • Assists Water Efficiency Coordinator with water management-oriented tasks including the water management and conservation plan;
  • Performs indoor and/or outdoor water evaluations and makes recommendations for improving water use;
  • Assess the efficiency of irrigation systems and prepares written reports to site owners and managers outlining suggestions for water system improvements;
  • Gathers and analyzes customers water use data. Responds to customer inquiries or complaints and provides technical assistance regarding irrigation or water use problems;
  • Evaluates high water use accounts and assists customers with identifying water leaks;
  • Implements rebate programs and tracks water savings.  Develops spreadsheets to facilitate analysis and maintain records related to program activities;
  • Assists in marketing water efficiency concepts and activities, including outreach materials, presentations to groups, and staffing of booths at public events;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
