The Opportunity:  Wastewater Treatment Facility Laboratory Technician

The Alderwood Water & Wastewater District (AWWD) is seeking a full-time Wastewater Treatment Facility Laboratory Technician in the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Department. Located in the fast-growing Puget Sound region, AWWD is focused on the expansion, maintenance, and replacement of its critical infrastructure. AWWD currently employs 147 employees and the WWTF Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing chemical and microbiological tests to ensure that the parameters of the wastewater treatment plant discharge permit are met.

The incumbent in this position is responsible for interpreting analysis results and making recommendations for wastewater treatment facility (WWTF) process control; maintains the quality assurance program to meet the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Agency requirements including laboratory accreditation.  Performs administrative tasks such as purchasing, equipment maintenance, records management, and reporting. The position reports to the Wastewater Treatment Facility Manager and receives direction form the Lead Wastewater Treatment Facility Operator

The successful candidate will possess any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job as required for this position.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be four years of experience in water, wastewater, or a process industry laboratory that includes experience with collecting, testing, and recording a variety of test samples, and the equivalent of a two year degree in environmental science, chemistry, microbiology, or a related field.

A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

The selected candidate will be required to earn first-aid/CPR, AED, and bloodborne pathogen cards within one year; must have the ability to earn an Operator-in-Training (OIT) Wastewater Treatment Operator certification from the State of Washington within one year.

The pay range for this position is $29.37-$39.36 per hour, with a starting pay range of $29.37-$32.38 per hour dependent upon experience and qualifications.
