Mt. View-Edgewood Water Company (MTVE), a private member owned mutual, is located north of Puyallup, WA.  Our service area is approximately 9 square miles and consists of 9 wells, 4 reservoirs, and 3,600 water connections. MTVE is a non-treated system, we do not add any chemicals.  Our water has won several regional awards as well as Best Water in the Nation. Field Technician Position Summary:

This is a full time, entry-level position that serves as a member of the MTVE field staff for all field operations and maintenance functions. Primary duties that will be developed with training include installation and maintenance of potable water distribution system components, leak repairs, system flushing, lock-up functions, and system emergency response. This position also assists with utility locates, inventory and tool maintenance, vehicle and equipment readiness and maintenance, and well site operations. The position reports to the Field Lead and General Manager.

Job Requirements:

Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver’s license. Must possess or obtain a Class ‘B’ Commercial Driver’s License, with air brakes, within two years of hire date.

Obtain and maintain Flagging and First Aid Certification. (Company sponsored)

Attend training for working in confined spaces and with asbestos concrete pipe. (Company sponsored)

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills to properly operate and maintain construction equipment.

Maintain a high level of physical fitness to meet the demands of the job that requires the ability to work outdoor in cramped, wet, awkward, and often difficult conditions, and may require lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 pounds.

Participate in the Federal (CDL) Random Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.

Must reside within 30 minutes of utility service area for on call rotation purposes.

Working Conditions:

The Field Technician position is a physically demanding job that requires extended periods of lifting, carrying, jackhammering, shoveling, and other physically demanding labor. Must have the ability to bend, crawl, work in restricted areas, enter and work in confined spaces and trenches, and climb to high elevations such as on top of water reservoirs and MTVE buildings. Must be able to lift tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to seventy five pounds. Work may be performed in a fast-paced environment and/or under adverse weather and traffic conditions.

Field Technician – Wage and Benefits Summary:

Starting hourly pay range is currently $23.00 – $25.00 depending on existing experience, skill, knowledge, and certifications. COLA and merit pay raises are reviewed January each year.

MTVE will offer medical/vision/prescription insurance for the full-time employee, spouse, and dependents.

Full medical insurance coverage for the employee begins on the first of the month following employment.

MTVE pays 80% of the monthly medical insurance premium maximum for the spouse. Additionally, 80% of the monthly medical premium is paid by MTVE for dependents for a maximum of three dependents only. The employee may pay additional medical premiums as necessary through payroll deduction.

MTVE has 10 paid holidays and 3 floating holidays.  Sick leave is accrued at eight hours per month.

Full-time employees accrue vacation time as follows:

After 1st year – 5 days

After 2nd year – 10 days

After 3rd through 6th year – 10 days plus 1 day for each successive year

After 7th year – 15 days

After 8th through 11th year – 10 days plus 1 day for each successive year

After 12th year – 20 days

MTVE provides a Simplified Employee Pension Plan (SEP) for all qualified full-time employees.

To qualify for SEP benefits, the employee must:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Have worked for MTVE for at least one year.

Currently, MTVE contributes 7.5% of the employee’s annual salary. Employees may also contribute to their SEP through the Salary Deferral Option of the plan.

MTVE offers a safety boot allowance of $300 per year. MTVE provides logo shirts, coats, rain gear, rubber boots, high visibility safety apparel, and hats. Field staff are issued a Company cell phone after successful completion of a six month probationary period.

This position works 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday except Company holidays.
