Spanaway Water Company is currently accepting resumes for the position of Field Operations and Maintenance Manager. This position serves as a member of the Company’s management team and as the Company’s lead for all field operations and maintenance functions.  Primary responsibilities are planning, scheduling, on-site permit compliance, coordination and directing of field staff.  Responsibilities also include maintenance of inventory, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and construction inspection.  Ensures on-going construction inspection, reviews and addresses issues that may arise with contractors.  Reviews and recommends changes in construction materials and installation standards and techniques.  Coordinates with the General Manager and Water Programs Manager processes required for construction within the water system.  Provides and receives input to and from other management team members and employees to ensure timely, correct, and effective expansion and improvements to the water system.  Responsible to and reports to the General Manager.

Qualifications: Five (5) years increasingly responsible experience in a medium to large size public water and/or wastewater utility and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

License/Certifications:  At the time of appointment must hold a valid Washington State Driver License.  The selected candidate must have a Water Distribution Manager 2 and Cross-Connection Control Specialist state certification, or must obtain certifications within two (2) years of hire date.

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess some of the following knowledge, skills, and/or experience:

  • Ability to create and foster a culture of empowerment and engagement including supporting and representing the maintenance field crews.
  • Managing operational functions with a diverse workforce in a unionized environment.
  • Utilizing key performance indicators/metrics to assess performance and drive organizational improvements.
  • Duties performed in office and field environments with travel to meetings, conferences, SWC facilities and construction projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Technical knowledge of the construction, maintenance, operation and repair of water distribution systems.
  • Industry best practice related to maintenance, repair, and control of SWC’s facilities and infrastructure and equipment.
  • Manages the acquisition/purchase of vehicles and heavy equipment, manages replacement schedule.
  • Thorough knowledge of modern principles and practices of management and supervision.
  • Personnel rules, laws, regulations and practices.
  • Business writing, grammar, punctuation and proofreading.
  • Windows Operating System, Microsoft Office Products.

Hourly wage: $52.39 to $62.00 dependent upon qualifications and experience
