The City of Gresham is thrilled to announce an exciting new position as an Engineer 1 or 2 with the Watershed team in Environmental Services.  This role will work with fellow staff to create solutions to issues identified by the City's maintenance staff, review development plans to ensure compliance with the City's stormwater standards, and help develop and support and implement long-term Capital Improvement Projects with the City's stormwater system and watershed resources.

The work location for this position is in the office at Gresham City Hall (1333 NW Eastman Parkway).  A remote or hybrid schedule may be considered.  The remote location must be in or near the Portland-Vancouver Metropolitan area.

Salary:
Engineer 1:  $74,119 - $96,357 per year
Engineer 2:  $86,407 - $112,335 per year

 

What you will get to do:

  • Project Design for Natural Resources and Stormwater:  Coordinate and perform the design and preparation of plans and specifications for stormwater-related public works projects, including gray (pipe and structure) and green (vegetated stormwater facility) infrastructure, and natural systems such as streams and wetlands. Perform engineering studies; analyze data, make recommendations based on findings, and prepare technical reports. direct engineering technicians and/or construction inspectors in the design, review, or construction phases of projects; conduct field inspections and/or site visits.
  • Project Review: 

Engineer 1:  Review projects both internally and externally for compliance with City standards. Provide technical and engineering support services relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Engineer 2:  Review projects both internally and externally for compliance with City standards. Provide technical and engineering support services relative to assigned area of responsibility. Lead direction of work activities; prioritize and coordinate work assignments; review work for accuracy and content; evaluate projects, activities, and processes; monitor work performed to meet agreed upon goals and objectives; report issues to management for corrective action.

 

  • Respond to internal issues brought by My Gresham and Operations reports:  Coordinate with the Operations department to identify solutions to issues brought through reporting and My Gresham concerns. Tasks include understanding the issue(s) and developing a design solution that will meet the needs of the City.

 

  • Collaborate with staff across divisions and departments:  

Engineer 1:  Work closely with Gresham engineering staff to provide input and collaboration on multidisciplinary projects. Perform revisions to documents marked up by engineer/reviewer.

Engineer 2:  Work closely with Gresham engineering staff to provide input and collaboration on multidisciplinary projects. Perform revisions to documents marked up by engineer/reviewer. Assist in managing projects and participating in program and strategic planning; assist in monitoring the budget.

 

  • Construction oversight:  Provide management services for construction and engineering projects, including contract administration, drafting specifications, assembling contract documents, evaluating and determining project issues and scope, overseeing pre-construction meetings, facilitating and leading planning meetings, preparing project cost estimates, interpreting contracts, and ensuring compliance.
  • Support Water Quality Team initiatives such as water quality retrofit improvements.
  • Support Natural Resources Team with enhancement and restoration projects.
  • Represent the City to the general public, other agencies, governments, private developers, community advisory boards, and consultants including making presentations, participating in meetings, planning and coordinating activities, and resolving issues.
  • Respond to and resolve confidential and sensitive inquiries.
  • Investigate complaints from property owners, businesses, and the general public regarding engineering projects, and recommending corrective actions as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Engineer 1:  

  • Bachelor's degree*
  • Up to one (1) year of related experience*
  • Oregon Fundamentals of Engineering certificate
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good driving record (as defined by our driving matrix)

*Any combination of qualifying education, training, and/or experience to reach an equivalency of 4-5 years will be considered

Engineer 2:

  • Bachelor's degree**
  • One (1) to four (4) years of related experience**
  • Oregon Professional Engineer (PE) registration or ability to become registered in Oregon
  • Valid driver's license
  • Good driving record (as defined by our driving matrix)

*Any combination of qualifying education, training, and/or experience to reach an equivalency of 5-7 years will be considered

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain PE when eligible (Engineer 1 only).
  • Basic (Engineer 1) or Intermediate (Engineer 2) proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for drafting, grading, and design
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Basic proficiency in GIS for reviewing and organizing data
  • Experience with analysis and modeling software such as HydroCAD, SWMM, HY-8, or other comparable programs.
  • Experience analyzing open-channel hydraulic using programs such as HEC RAS and SRH2D
