The Construction Operator operates all construction equipment such as, backhoe, vac truck, boom truck, dump truck, and any other equipment needed for construction duties. This position is located in East Pierce, WA.



  • Operates all construction and pump pulling equipment

  • Reads site, engineering, and survey plans

  • Installs underground facilities

  • Installs all underground water lines, valves, hydrants, fittings, and accessories

  • Installs meters of all sizes

  • Pulls services and replaces well pumps

  • Troubleshoots, repairs flow and pressure problems and leaks

  • Provides emergency on-call response

  • Traffic Control

  • Completes necessary paperwork

  • Participates in the Company's Continuous Improvement Process

  • Operates heavy equipment

  • Reads and understands blueprints and maps

  • Locates water mains with electronic equipment

  • Performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time sensitive deadlines

  • Regularly interacts with employees, public, and customers, requiring common sense, tact and diplomacy in order to accomplish assignments

  • Provides outstanding customer service

  • Attends meetings and training as directed by Washington Water Service

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Graduation from high school or GED

  • Experience working in the construction field and around heavy equipment

  • State of Washington Water Distribution Specialists certification within 1 year

  • Valid State of Washington Class A Combination Driver's License

  • Acquire CDL Tanker endorsement within 1 year of hire

  • First Aid card or obtain within 1 year of hire

  • Flagger's card or obtain within 1 year of hire

  • Confined Space, Soils, and Asbestos certificates desired

  • NCCO Crane Certification or ability to obtain within one year

  • Available for on-call

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all machines and tools used in the job

  • Demonstrates knowledge of hazardous materials and confined spaces

  • Demonstrates knowledge of rights of way and easements

  • Demonstrates knowledge of State, County, and City requirements for work being completed

  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, principles, practices and procedures for water systems, and work site safety

  • Demonstrates knowledge of job site staking

  • Upon hire, must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination status

Salary Range: $25.00 - $44.90
