Description

The City of Myrtle Creek is seeking a Public Works Director to lead the Public Works Department for a growing City with a population of 3500.  The successful candidate will lead a crew of 7 talented employees to operate and maintain the City infrastructure.

Responsibilities:  The Public Works Director is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and coordinating the various activities of the Public Works Department and subordinates.  Responsibilities include design, construction, maintenance and operation of City streets, storm drainage system, water distribution and treatment, wastewater collection and treatment and all other public works facilities and projects.  Reports to the City Administrator.

Required Qualifications:  The ideal candidate should have at least seven years of increasingly responsible public works experience, including supervisory responsibility, at a comparable agency.  Must be certified by the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) at a minimum level II Operator in wastewater collection and by the Oregon State Health Department (DHS)/Drinking Water Section at a minimum Level II in water distribution and Cross Connection Control Specialist or obtain the required certifications within two years.  Must also be certified, or obtain certification within one year, in the State of Oregon as a Right-of-Way Public Pesticide Applicator.  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in engineering, pubic administration or a closely related field is preferred.  Any combination of education and experience may be substituted as long as it provides the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.  Must have or obtain within one year from date of hire an Oregon CDL license.
