Tukwila, Washington, lies in the heart of the Puget Sound region, located 12 miles south of downtown Seattle, just east of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, and at the crossroads of two major interstate highways, I-5 and I-405. Tukwila is a regional economic powerhouse with heavy and light manufacturing, service-oriented companies, as well as one of the Northwest’s largest concentration of retail businesses. The City of Tukwila’s Public Works Department is comprised of six programs that include Administration, Maintenance Administration, Engineering, Development Services, Facility Maintenance, and Street Maintenance. The department employs 62 FTEs and its general fund budget is $7 million annually, with an additional $30 million in the city’s enterprise funds. In addition, the department has a separate capital budget for large projects. Public Works Administration initiates, implements and manages the programs, staff and facilities that provide for the public health, safety and welfare through the design, construction, and maintenance of the municipal infrastructure to include: streets, signals, water, sewer, storm drains, flood control, equipment, vehicles, and facilities. Reporting directly to the City Administrator, the Public Works Director performs a variety of managerial, professional, and administrative work in planning, directing, organizing, and coordinating the overall activities of the department.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Public Administration or a closely related field, and 7 years of related experience, including 2 years of supervisory responsibility of a complex organization is required. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license. A master’s degree or professional certification is preferred. Candidates may possess any combination of relevant education and experience that demonstrates their ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
