Salary:             $24.00 – 26.00 Hourly

$49,920 - $54,080 Annually

 

General Statement:
This position is responsible for operations, maintenance and repair of water production and distribution systems. These include the water mains, service lines, meters, wells, reservoirs, SCADA, hydrants, and booster stations. The Field Technician works closely with and reports to the Field Manager, Office Staff and the Public.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Water System Repair, Maintenance and Inspection. Includes Water Mains, Meters, Services, Pumps, Pressure Control Valves, Fire Hydrants, Reservoirs, Booster Pump Stations and Facilities.
  • Read Water Meters monthly and on an as needed basis
  • Replacement of Water Meters and Boxes
  • Respond to Member Complaints
  • Available for “on-call” status for one-week periods to respond to emergency or urgent calls during non-working hours
  • Respond to SCADA alarms
  • Fill in for Field Manager when required
  • Maintenance of Vehicles, Equipment and Tools
  • Record Keeping
  • Perform Utility Locates
  • Perform other related duties as required

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Understanding water system operations
  • Ability to read basic water maps and construction drawings
  • Work independently with little to no supervision
  • Ability to write clearly
  • Ability to follow instruction – both verbal and written
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools
  • Ability to do repetitive tasks
  • Ability to establish and maintain good customer service relations
  • Ability to climb water reservoir – (40 Feet)
  • Work In confined spaces
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Essential Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position are considered moderate to heavy. The essential physical activities to effectively perform the job include the following:

  • Seeing and perceiving existing and potential problems
  • Speak with a wide range of individuals when necessary
  • Walking, Standing, Lifting, Bending, Digging, Pushing, Pulling, Reaching, and Handling of field equipment as needed and for meter installation and replacement

Environmental Conditions:

The position requires constant exposure to outside weather conditions; frequent exposure to domestic animals with possible exposure to wildlife at times. Technician will be required to navigate over, under, through and around natural vegetation, geologic and man-made obstructions.

Experience and Education Required:

  • High School Graduation or Equivalent
  • Possession of Washington State Health Division Water Distribution Manager Level 1 or Specialist Level 2 (within 12 months of employment required)
  • Certified Cross Connection Specialist or acquire within 12 months
  • Preferred One Year Experience in Water Field Operations or Utilities Construction
  • Valid Washington State Driver License and Insurable by UHWA
  • Washington State Flagger Certification
